hISTORY

Jumbo Giants Football Club (Jumbo Giants FC) was founded by Ekenamolisa Ofili, an experienced coach and former player with a deep passion for football. Ofili studied sports and played football at a high level, almost reaching professional status in the USA. His journey through the football world, which encompassed experiences in coaching, sports management, and playing, provided him with a wealth of knowledge that he brought back to Nigeria. Ofili's vision was to create a platform where young football talents could be nurtured and developed, and where the discipline of sports could be combined with personal growth.

Ekenam is dedicated to providing top-notch training and mentorship. He has a proven track record of developing young talent. Coach Eke boasts of an impressive CV with over 10 years of coaching experience.

Early Beginnings: Coach Eke’s Clinics

Before Jumbo Giants FC was officially established, Ofili organized football training sessions under the banner of Coach Eke’s Clinics. These clinics aimed to introduce young players to the fundamentals of football, and it quickly became evident that there was a strong demand for structured football programs for kids. Ofili’s coaching style, combined with his ability to engage young athletes, attracted attention and participation, setting the stage for what would soon become a fully-fledged football academy.

The Birth of Jumbo Giants FC

In October 2023, following a highly successful Half-Term clinic, Ofili decided to take the next step and officially launched Jumbo Giants Football Club. This period marked several significant milestones for the club:

  1. The Logo Creation: Jumbo Giants FC’s logo, symbolizing strength and resilience, was designed by Sadeeq, a talented designer. The elephant in the logo represents the club’s motto of pushing beyond limits, and it has since become an emblem of pride for the club.

  2. Social Media Presence: In the same month, the club launched its Instagram account, marking its first official foray into the digital world. The account served as a platform to showcase the activities of the club, engage with parents and the wider community, and document the journey of the young players.

  3. First Training Kit: October 2023 was also the month when Jumbo Giants FC received its first official training kit, further solidifying its identity and professional outlook. The kids, dressed in their official kits, started to feel like they were part of something greater than just a football academy, they were part of a team, a community.

After-School Programs and Expanding Clinics

The first official After-School Program kicked off in November 2023, and it lasted until December, giving rise to another after-school session in January 2024. This program was intended to run through to March 2024, but unforeseen circumstances shifted the plans. Despite these challenges, the program was instrumental in helping build the foundation for Jumbo Giants FC’s football development pathway.

During this time, the academy faced some setbacks, including the failure to secure enough participants for the proposed Christmas Clinics. Undeterred by this, Coach Eke and his team pivoted their efforts to plan the Ramadan/Easter Break Clinics in March 2024. This holiday clinic proved to be a turning point, attracting a healthy number of participants and positioning Jumbo Giants as a serious contender in the youth football development scene.

Building on the momentum, Jumbo Giants FC launched the Jumbo Giants Spring Classics in the same month of March 2024, offering another opportunity for the kids to hone their skills during the school holidays.

Growth and Development: Summer Clinics and Beyond

By August 2024, the club had continued its upward trajectory, successfully hosting its first-ever Summer Clinics. These clinics attracted a large number of young football enthusiasts who were eager to train during the summer holiday. The success of the Summer Clinics represented a new chapter for Jumbo Giants FC as it expanded its reach and garnered more recognition within the community.

That same month, the club created its first official events calendar, outlining all the planned activities, matches, and training sessions for the rest of the year. This added a new level of professionalism to the club’s operations, allowing parents and players to better plan and participate in the various programs offered by the academy.

Another exciting development in August 2024 was the design of the club’s first official match jersey, further enhancing the identity of the team and giving the players a sense of pride and unity.
